SLO Chamber supports regional collaboration on housing & infrastructure

For the first time, the County of San Luis Obispo, its Cities and the Council of Governments are looking to work together and plan for housing in a truly collaborative way. The Regional Infrastructure and Housing Strategic Action Plan would recognize how real people experience our community countywide when planning for the state’s required 10,810 new housing units by 2028.

SLO and Morro Bay now receive cleaner energy, and it’s cheaper, officials say

new way of receiving cleaner power, called community choice energy, has arrived in San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay, and it will significantly reduce carbon emissions while saving customers money, officials say.

Monterey Bay Community Power, a nonprofit electricity provider serving Central Coast counties, began providing service to the two SLO County cities on Jan. 1.

Electricity will still be powered through PG&E’s infrastructure, and local customers won’t need to change anything about how they receive energy or pay monthly bills.

Businesses look to solve childcare crisis for their employees

Low unemployment rates in San Luis Obispo County have made it a struggle for businesses to find and retain employees.

One of the biggest factors contributing the problem is the lack and cost of childcare.

“Some people pay more for childcare than they do for their mortgage on their house and that makes it where it doesn’t make sense for you to go to work,” said Jim Dantona, San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce President.
